Out West is another more recent Berenstain Bears book featuring all five loveable bears (Papa, Mama, Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear). In this adventure, the whole family boards a plane to the west to visit Uncle Tex. What makes this uncle interesting is that he owns a genuine ranch with horses, cattle, and cacti called the B-Bar-X. This is all foreign to our family from Bear Country. They all try new things. Naturally Papa Bear finds a little mischief as he tries to ride an unbroken horse. In addition to the always excellent rhyme, what made this story notable was the nod to the "old West" with images of the Pony Express and folks panning for gold. I very much enjoyed this story and heartily recommend it. Recommended for graded 2-3.
