Of the four Berenstain Bears books I've read since we've started reading to the Blueberry, this ranks at the top, possibly because it was brand new to me and featured some notable changes. First of all, somewhere in the 2000s a new bear was born to the Berenstain family. It's another girl and her name is Honey. Second, in addition to Stan and Jan Berenstain, the author list included Mike Berenstain, whom I'm guess is the original Small Bear, then Brother Bear. Despite the new characters and fresh story line, it amazes me that despite the passage of time, Mama and Papa Bear dress in antiquated gear, like full-suit bathing gowns. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. In Go on Vacation, the Berenstain Bears go to the beach. They fish, swim, eat, shop and visit a museum. All the while they're saying in a lovely cottage with the beach on one side and a bay on the other. Aside from the fact that would be disastrous in a hurricane or other tropical storm, I can't imagine a comparable paradise, at least not one without snow. It made me a little homesick for Hawaii. Even though this book is geared towards the upper end of grades 1-3, it has a great rhyming rhythm which makes it perfect for reading to the baby. Love this book! Source: Library Book.
